MVP-MOST VALUABLE PERRON

perron

David Perron, has exceeded everyone’s expectations including my own. Yes it is 30 games into the season, but I never thought he would be a PPG player on this team. I never thought he would have such an impact this quick. I never thought he would be the team MVP 30 games into the season. It was a toss-up for me between the Nuge and Perron, but i felt Perron has exceeded everyone’s expectations and has done more than he’s been asked and for that he’s my MVP.

Since David Perrons arrival, he has impacted this team in every which way possible. When he steps on the ice you know he is going to give 110% every shift, you know something is going to happen. He isn’t the biggest guy out there, but he certainly plays bigger then he is and uses that to his full advantage. When I watch him, it’s just amazing how smooth he can be with his takeaways, lining them up, cutting off the angles and just nonchalantly takes away the puck and either heads up ice or creates a scoring chance. He is a puck possession demon, some may call him a puck hog, but I see it other wise. It’s not like he doesn’t pass, he is just so crafty and great at puck possession he opens more lanes, and scoring chances in the offensive zone which in turn creates space for himself.
His offensive production has been off the charts, he’s almost at a PPG, and he has already eclipsed his goal total from last year. He has been this teams most consistent performer (aside from the nuge) this season.

When he first got traded he said the Oilers system was a better fit, he could jump back to playing the left side and of course the puck possession style of system is right up his alley. When he was in St Louis he was playing with Backes and Oshie in a defence first system and especially that line, as it was a shutdown line. He benefited and learned a lot about defence playing with those guys and on that team, but he was really looking forward to being let loose, to be able to use his creativity and imagination on the ice more. It has been clearly evident he’s let loose, but he still hasn’t forgotten to play defence, he’s been a strong calm presence on his own zone, he does have moments where he doesn’t back check as hard as he can, but he makes up for with the constant takeaways. The main thing is he doesn’t scramble in his own zone when everyone else does, he stays calm and little things like that leave an impression on the guys on the ice and the bench, and can be infectious in games.

He brings everything to the table, and he leaves it all on the ice every game. He can take a lot of penalties, but he certainly draws more than he takes. He keeps his feet moving, and his motor running. His leadership has been very much welcomed within this team. He is a vocal guy on the ice and on the bench, whether he is figuring out what he did wrong or what he can do to help and figure out what happened on the last shift. He does so many little things well, whether is sticking up for his team mates, blocking shots, making sure to the get the puck out of the zone and if you notice whenever a guy tries to goat him into a penalty he just smiles and skates away. He knows he is more valuable on the ice than in the box in those situations, but he will be the first to try to goat the opposing team in joining him in the box. He is a pest out there, he flies around, makes hits than skates off with the puck, he chirps and gets in players faces he really gets under the opposing teams skin, which was something this team has lacked for a while now. I hope when the time comes, he gets a lengthy extension and the money he is worth.

Dont agree he’s the MVP up until this point? feel free to let me know on twitter @madi39
