Noah Is Amazing, But …

Noah Syndergaard is our bridge over troubled waters. He struck out 11 Brewers on Sunday, and combined with a home run by Michael Conforto and Asdrubal Cabrera’s two run single in the fourth inning gave the Mets a 3-1 win and a much needed sweep of the Brewers. The sweep, while keeping them afloat in the division and proving that the Mets aren’t one of those annoying teams that play down to their competition, has merely made them just healthy enough to face the Nationals again. And by healthy, that’s standings healthy.

In terms of actual health? There is a big problem concerning Lucas Duda and his back:

Following Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the Brewers, general manager Sandy Alderson said the team will make a decision Monday about a potential disabled-list stint. Collins said tests done on Duda’s back have been evaluated but will be reevaluated by team physician David Altchek on Monday morning. At that point, Duda will receive a diagnosis. Collins previously said it could be a disk issue.

Oh boy. Disk issues. Laid me up for the better part of two months. Well if it’s that … the good news is that I got a guy if Lucas cares for some advice.

“I don’t have any expectations yet. I’m real concerned, there’s no question,” Collins said. “I’m really concerned this is going to keep this guy out for a while, but that’s just me. I’m not the doctor.”

Terry Collins: Self aware enough to realize he’s not a doctor. Jerry Manuel couldn’t even give us that small victory. So look how far we’ve come.

When approached before the game, Duda declined to talk about the injury, preferring to comment when he had more information.

Lucas Duda declining to talk isn’t news. It’s just a day that ends in “y”.

He did not accompany the team to Washington for its series against the Nationals.

So it’s a whole lotta Eric Campbell for you and your loved ones this week against Washington, and perhaps beyond. And if it is beyond, and it is indeed a disk issue with Duda, then Sandy Alderson might actually be in the same position that he was last season. That position is the one where he has to make a trade to keep Eric Campbell from getting at bats. It’s either that or hope that Wilmer Flores comes back healthy on Friday and responds to regular at-bats by ripping the ball all over the yard. Or maybe Conforto buys a first base glove on eBay (seller: Piazza31), which isn’t preferred on my end, but it would get Juan Lagares and Alejandro de Aza some more at-bats. Or maybe de Aza makes good on his promise to play first base and becomes the feel good story of 2016.

Y’know, I think Texas has a minor leaguer buried in their system who would be perfect for what the Mets need.
