It looks like Peter Chiarelli and Todd McLellan don’t want to waste any time making their initial cuts to the Oilers’ roster. Today the team made seven cuts: Ethan Bear, Caleb Jones, Markus Niemelainen are heading back to their CHL teams, while Scott Allen, Joey Benik, Jaedon Descheneau, and Frankie Simonelli are en route to Bakersfield.
#Oilers assign Allen, Benik, Descheneau & Simonelli to @Condors, plus Bear, Jones & Niemelainen to their @TheWHL & @OHLHockey teams.

Hopefully this year’s roster will be pretty much set prior to the last couple of preseason games. There are many newcomers to the team, and chemistry is a concern. With that in mind, Bruce McCurdy brought up a bad memory in a comment on Lowetide’s blog:
[In 2014-15] Dallas Eakins’ Oilers went two weeks into the season–and 5 straight losses–while figuring out which of Jeff Petry, Oscar Klefbom and Martin Marincin should sit in the press box so that Brad Hunt could get a game.
Also, Connor and Nuge are back!
