Slowly but surely, we are starting to find out more about how the Edmonton Oilers will look when the season begins next October. No, I’m not talking about the roster, I’m talking about the uniforms.
Prior to the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs the Oilers announced that their orange alternate jerseys, worn during games in the past two seasons, will become the team’s official home jersey. This change aligns with the NHL’s switch from Reebok to adidas as the official jersey provider and the decision for teams to only have a home and away uniform for the 2017-18 season.
The orange jerseys will see a slight change from their current look, which has an orange base with royal blue on the shoulders and waist stripe. That royal blue will no longer be a part of the look as the team will switch to navy blue. Navy blue, as Oiler fans will remember, was a featured color in the team’s uniform from the mid-1990’s until the 2011-12 season.
As per @sportslogosnet, the #Oilers orange jerseys will include navy blue on the shoulders, not royal blue. Small change.

It’s not a major change, but the darker navy blue will certainly have a different look than the current royal blue. Personally, I don’t mind the change but I also don’t see the point of it. The orange jerseys are my favorite and I personally don’t believe they needed to be touched up after just two seasons.
So these are the updates we know: orange jerseys will be the home jersey and royal blue is out in favor of navy blue. Are there more changes coming? I hope not, I really like the current white uniforms, but I think it is possible. There has been no word regarding a white road version of the orange jersey, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Oilers have one come October. It makes the most sense.
As for the retro blue home jersey the Oilers have worn the past few years, they will be put back in the closet this season. While there has been no official word about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a comeback for the 2018-19 season as an alternate uniform.
When will we see these new uniforms debut? According to Chris Creamer of Sportslogos.net we will see them at or around the NHL draft in Chicago at the end of June. You can read about Edmonton’s changes and the other teams making jersey edits here.
