August 31st. The meteorological start to fall, sorry to burst your bubble, but with this start to fall brings Oilers hockey. The talk on the radio will start to heat up, players will start making their way into town. TSN and SportsNet will start running more and more stories, it’s going to be a fun time.
A new season always brings renewed optimism to the Oilers, but this off season has brought with it a few more McReasons to be excited. We as Oilers fans are lucky enough to be able to watch the beginning of what promises to be an amazing career of one Connor McDavid. We’ve talked about it since that fateful April night when the gold card was pulled from the envelope to reveal that the Oilers were going to be able to select arguably the best player since, at the very least Sidney Crosby, people are also dropping names like Mario Lemieux in there too. Not bad when our newest young forward is being compared to one of the best players of all-time.
To start the month of September off, tomorrow we’ll be beginning our annual Just Who Is series. If you haven’t seen it before, we’ll be doing in-depth profiles of all of this offseason’s additions. Managers, coaches, draft picks, trades and free agent acquisitions.
Something else we’re working on at the OilersRig is planning our next #OilersRigLive4MS fundraiser. We’ll hopefully be announcing the date and location soon, we’ve got some big plans this year so once it’s announced mark your calendars and plan to join us for a great night of Oilers hockey, socializing, silent auction and more. Stay Tuned folks, there is a lot to come here on the Rig, and hopefully a lot to expect from our Oilers this season.
