Oilers Sunday Morning Links

With a preseason game coming up tonight against the Kings (game preview to follow!) I’m throwing you all a changeup this week and posting the weekly links in the morning. So before a Sunday filled with hockey and football, kick back, drink a coffee and enjoy some of the finest pieces from the Oilers blogosphere this week.

After two nice wins to start the preseason slate, the Oilers have dropped the last two contests and, quite frankly, haven’t looked very good in the process. Are Oiler fans concerned about the team’s new additions and it’s new look defensive group? It certainly looks like it.

More Cuts: The Oilers cut six more players on Saturday, assigning four to Bakersfield and placing two roster hopefuls on the waiver wire. Jonathan Willis of OilersNation takes a look at the players dispatched by the team and what the transactions mean for these particular players.

Oilers Sell ECHL Club: The Edmonton Oilers sold their ECHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, earlier this week. VAPuckHead, who writes about the Admirals over at the CoppernBlue, takes a look at the sale and what it may mean for both the Oilers and Admirals moving forward.

Caution, Folks: While Drake Caggiula has had a very strong training camp for the Edmonton Oilers, Kurt Leavins of the Cult of Hockey blog writes a cautionary tale about early training camp performances from young players. Should Oiler fans pump the breaks a little bit on Caggiula and temper expectations?

Righting A Wrong?: The Edmonton Oilers made a huge mistake in the spring of 2013 when they sent F Tobias Rieder to Arizona for Kale Kessy. Kessy is currently unsigned while Rieder has emerged as a legit NHL option. That said, Rieder still doesn’t have a deal with Arizona and a trade seems almost likely at this point.
