Oilers Sunday Night Links

Well Oiler fans, you made it through the weekend! Unwind from what was hopefully a fun two nights and get ready for another work week with some links from around the Oilers blogging community. After all, we are fast approaching silly season and that means the rumors are all around us!

Is Matthew Tkachuk The Man For Edmonton? Is It A Mistake?: Our friend Lowetide took a look at a few things draft related earlier this week. First off, he gives a vote of confidence to D Mikhail Sergachev and then gives his thoughts on the 4th overall pick. The interesting part? Arguably the most knowledgeable blogger regarding prospects would do something different than he thinks will happen.

A handy look at the unsigned 2014 draft picks who will re-enter the entry draft in June is included.

RNH, Eberle, 4th Pick Lead Trade List: TSN’s Frank Seravelli tees up silly season with a look at his top 20 players on the Trade Bait List. Of note, the Oilers are in possession of two of the top five assets. In total, four of the twenty assets belong to the Edmonton Oilers.

Seravelli thinks it could be a busy month for Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli, and judging by the amount of pieces on this list with Edmonton connections, he’s probably right. Also of note? The amount of RHD on this list. Some interesting trade possibilities emerge here.

Discussing Disappointment: Oilers F Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will be the first to admit it, he had a disappointing 2015-16 season. Injuries and illness derailed the young center and his lack of impact certainly hurt the Oilers this past season. Jason Gregor of OilersNation has a nice interview with Nuge on that topic, the World Cup of Hockey, and more.

Inside The Life of Andrew Ference: Andrew Ference has been an Edmonton Oiler for three seasons now, and while his impact on the ice has been marginal, his impact off of it has been unreal. Sammi Silber of Oil on Whyte has a really good look inside the life of the defender.

Ference was a mainstay in the community in Boston, and his presence is still missed here. I know firsthand the impact he had on the community out here and on the people. I can also say that the relationships he made as a Bruin still live strong today. Whatever anyone thinks of Ference as a hockey player is irrelevant, this is an awesome guy.

Offer Sheet Seth Jones: The Oilers can absolutely sewer the Columbus Blue Jackets’ off-season with one simple move, an offer sheet. The Blue Jackets are cap-strapped and will need to find space to re-sign RFA D Seth Jones. Matt Henderson of Hockeybuzz says the Oilers should take advantage of another team’s unfortunate situation and try to benefit.
