The World Cup of Hockey is (kinda) underway as exhibition games have begun all around the globe. On top of that….we had news! Kris Versteeg signed a PTO with the Oilers and if you believe the speculation, we could see a veteran center added in the same capacity. A trade for a RHD? I still wouldn’t rule it out before the season starts.
Without further ado, let’s take our weekly spin around the Oilers blogosphere.
Balance?: Are the Oilers closing in on lineup balance? What are the holes on the projected starting lineup for October 12th? Lowetide takes a look back at the last eleven opening night lineups to see how the Oilers have progressed over the years and then breaks down the projected group for this season over at his blog, Lowetide.ca.
Versteeg Attending Camp: Veteran forward Kris Versteeg, as mentioned above, will be joining the Edmonton Oilers this training camp and attempting to make the team. Zach Laing takes a look at the player over at OilersNation.
Intellect Over Emotion: The Taylor Hall trade is the topic of discussion that simply won’t go away. Naturally, the topic of this discussion has shifted from the deal itself to the reasons why it happened. Kurt Leavins of Oil On Whyte explains why the conspiracy theories need to stop and looks at the deal.
Caggiula the Next Marchant?: Drake Caggiula’s Edmonton arrival has been overshadowed by Milan Lucic and Adam Larsson’s arrivals to town, but the young forward is certainly a player of interest. While he’s likely to start in the AHL, Caggiula immediately becomes Edmonton’s best forward prospect in the AHL. What kind of player can he be? David Staples asks if he’ll fit into the Andrew Cogliano/Todd Marchant grouping.
Making It Right: Could the Oilers make things right with Nail Yakupov and play him in a key spot this coming season? Would it work, and are there any examples from the past? The guys over at Beer League Heroes take a look at that exact question.
