Last summer here at the Rig, I posted a weekly recap called “Sunday Night Links” that took a stroll across the internet and posted five articles that I thought readers would really enjoy. Of course, those article were all about the Edmonton Oilers and most of the pieces came from other blogs in the Oilogosphere.
As we get ready to officially turn the page on the 2016-17 season, it’s time to bring “Sunday Night Links” back out of the shed for the summer. As the draft, expansion draft and free agency loom, these next few weeks should be a lot of fun.
Cruel Summer: Friend of the blog Lowetide had an awesome post this morning that tries to read the tea leaves and project what could be happening this summer. Check out LT’s latest targets at both forward and defense and his thoughts on what could be going down this summer with the Oilers.
Puljujarvi For Eberle?: With all sorts of rumors surrounding Jordan Eberle being traded this off-season, is it possible that Jesse Puljujarvi ends up being his replacement? Is Puljujarvi even a good bet to replace Eberle in the top-six this October? David Staples of The Cult of Hockey blog seems to think so.
The Return: Speaking of an Eberle trade, what would be a fair return for the veteran goal scorer? Jeff Chapman over at The CoppernBlue tries to answer that exact question.
To Trade or To Draft: The Oilers currently hold the 22nd overall pick in the NHL entry draft later this month, but should the club even want to use the pick? Matt Henderson at Hockeybuzz asks that question and looks back at some of the recent 22nd overall picks in draft history.
Round Three For Gryba?: After two consecutive one-year trials with the Oilers, should Eric Gryba get a third tour of duty with the club? Sammi Silber of Oil on Whyte examines that exact question.
