Another week, another news cycle in Oilers Nation. Things will start to really quiet down now, but the Leon Draisaitl negotiation still looms large and value contracts could be signed in the coming weeks. In fact, Edmonton signed one of those values deals on Friday by inking Jussi Jokinen to a one-year deal.

Here’s this week’s spin around the Oilogosphere.

Full Steam Ahead: As we approach the dog days of summer, Lowetide takes a look at the Oilers roster, what the Jokinen signing could mean, what spots still need help and Jesse Puljujarvi’s situation. This is a very good overview of the roster heading into the coming season.

Farewell Semenko: I don’t usually post links from The Oilers Rig in here because that kind of defeats the purpose of my post, but I wanted to share Avry’s recap of the Dave Semenko ceremony from Thursday at Rogers Place. It’s certainly worth a read as we remember the former Oiler.

Betting On Jussi: In signing Jussi Jokinen on Friday afternoon, the Edmonton Oilers made a bet on the veteran forward. Is that a solid bet? Jim Parsons of The Hockey Writers explains why he believes it’s a smart bet.
