The dust has settled in the NHL and teams are preparing to head into the quietest period of the year. Most teams have their rosters set and, with the exception of arbitration hearings and a few trade candidates, most teams are done for the summer making moves.
Are the Edmonton Oilers in that group? I think it’s possible, but I’d lean towards the answer of no. The Oilers still have a few holes on their roster and judging by the verbal from team and media, the team is actively looking for solutions. It may be a few weeks, but I think we’ll see a few more moves completed here.
Here’s this week’s edition of links from around the blogging community.
A Look At Looch: Get excited, Oiler fans. Milan Lucic is going to be a fan favorite by the time October wraps up. Jeanshorts over at OilersNation recently posted an article with Lucic’s best fights from his NHL career. While the big power forward can do so much more than fight, this video will certainly get you pumped up for camp in two months.
McLellan Speaks: For the first time since seeing major moves transform his hockey team, Oilers head coach Todd McLellan spoke to the media. Sammi Silber of Oil On Whyte takes a look at some of the key quotes from the availability and gives some thoughts to coach’s words.
Benson Passes Test: Not a blog post, but Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun has an excellent piece up discussing second round draft pick Tyler Benson and his experience at rookie camp this past week. Benson battled multiple injuries in his draft season and tumbled out of the first round. Finally, he’s feeling good again.
Better Now But Crippled By The Past: Pat McLean of Black Dog Hates Skunks takes a look at the Oilers’ recent moves and how the team will be better next season. At the same time, one of the smartest minds in the blogging community takes a look at how past mistakes led us to the pain of this off-season.
