It occurred to me yesterday that I failed to do up an article following our 3rd Annual #OilersRigLive4MS fundraising event!!

Let me be clear that when I say that “it occurred to me”, what I actually mean is that Dave basically poked at me and said “Sooo are we going to wrap this thing up or what?”

Sorry Dave…

hangs head in shame

For the record…I truly believe that if I hadn’t been so intent on bidding (and winning) the PRIVATE Doug Weight meet and greet – generously donated by ProAm Sports (@ProAmSports) that was scheduled for the very next day…I probably wouldn’t have been so distracted and would have had this article up a month ago.

Doug Weight

So basically it’s Doug Weight’s fault…just like my hurt feelings from 2006.

Anyways – back to the event!

Our silent auction was the biggest we’ve had so far. Aside from the Doug Weight canvas/meet and greet, we also had autographed player canvases, autographed framed pictures, Oilers game tickets, Oil Kings game tickets, alcohol, jewelry, clothing…you name it! We had it all!

Silent Auction

We also raffled off autographed Jordan Eberle, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid Oilers jerseys!

In total, we were able to raise $3400 for the MS Society of Alberta!

This puts us at a grand total of just over $8000 raised in the three years that we’ve been doing this event! How spectacularly proud of The Oilers Rig crew am I?!

so proud

$1700 of the funds we raised this year will be donated to the Really Long Run to end MS, an event that one of our writers, Sean Wingrave (@OwnMSDotCom1) participates in. You can view his website HERE for information regarding the run and other MS events that are going on.

The other $1700 will be donated to the MS Leduc to Camrose Bike Tour an event that our very own Dave Gordon (@rustyknuckler) participates in.

For those of you that are new to The Oilers Rig family, Sean and Dave have both been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and fight every day to beat this disease. This is why we fundraise – it’s a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts, just like these two guys…

You two are an inspiration – and I’m so glad that The Oilers Rig has been able to be a part of your journeys.

No…YOU have allergies…

We held this year’s event at On The Rocks Kitchen and Bar (@OnTheRocksEdm) which was a new venue for us and we also decided to sell tickets for the first time – which we were a little hesitant about doing. I’m not going to mix words – the economy has been terrible and we were a bit nervous about not selling any tickets, however even though we started off a bit slow, things really picked up in the last couple of weeks and we managed to have well over 100 people at the event!

Not only did we have the honor of having Patrycia Rzechowka (@jahoofka), the official spokesperson for the Johnson MS Bike Tour, at our event – we were also lucky enough to have some of the “Blogger Elite” grace us with their presence – in the form of Bruce McCurdy (@BruceMcCurdy), Matt Henderson (@Archaeologuy), Avry Lewis-McDougall (@Avry) and

ahem…and…me…

tumbleweed

orrrrr not…

Seriously though, we were thrilled with the turnout and we want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that managed to make it out to the event, those of you who talked it up and sold tickets to your family and friends, and those of you who blackmailed your friends to buy tickets! We are very grateful and humbled by your willingness to make our event a success.

We were even able to wrangle Ms. Shayna Shead, for the third year in a row, to come to the event and donate her time and photography skills to us. Not only does she take pictures of the event for us – she always helps us with set up and stays until the bitter end. Thank you Shayna!!

If you’d like to see pictures of our event, you can visit our Facebook page HERE

I would also like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to those of you that donated items and/or cash and/or your time to our event. Momma B, as we affectionately call her, (@smyth94ever) with her annual donation of spectacular Oilers tickets, our friend Darryl (@CopyDarryl) who consistently donates amazing items every year. This year, Darryl donated some very popular – and very expensive – autographed Taylor Hall memorabilia that nearly made Megan (@mig14) take out a small loan. It was outstanding!

We’d also like to thank our pals over at Oilers Nation (@oilersnation) who sent some considerable Nation Gear our way for the auction, as well as Dianne C.K. (@stylebydianne) from Stella and Dot who donated some gorgeous jewelry (along with wine, chocolate and other girls night out gifts) for the second year in a row. So many of you offered to help, offered to donate and offered up your friends’ money when it came to ticket sales. We are truly humbled by your generosity and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Personally, I’d like to thank Dave Gordon, Megan Fowler and the rest of the Oilers Rig Crew – you guys (and gal) are an amazing group of people and I count myself very lucky to be a part of such a great second family.

To those of you that were unable to make it out – don’t you worry. We’re already looking forward to our next event…one that we promise will be different, exciting and successful. It’s going to ROCK!

STAY TUNED!!
