The Rig Rant – Social Media Recap – Nov 27, 2016

.

Welcome to episode eight of The Rig Rant!

By now, I’m sure you know that every week, we search for the best, worst and most hilarious tweets and compile them all into one amazing article for your viewing pleasure.

On Twitter, you can find us @TheRigRant or you can tweet @JackieDee16 and she’ll make the magic happen. Tagging us in tweets helps wrangle in the awesomeness (it’s a word), so make sure you do!!

Week eight of The Rig Rant had three games on tap with the Oilers hosting Chicago and then heading to Colorado to meet the Avalanche and wrapping up the week in Arizona to face the Coyotes. In theory, the Oilers had a tough game against the Hawks and then two games that they SHOULD win…but how did that all shake out, and what did Twitter have to say about it?

Note: There is one thing that Twitter can’t get enough of and that’s Connor McDavid. He’s a wizard or an alien or some kind of beautiful hybrid sent down to Edmonton from the hockey gods. Regardless – he’s amazing so prepare yourselves for a McLovefest.

Oh – and everyone hates Drew Remenda…so be on the lookout for those tweets too.

**DISCLAIMER**

Some of these tweets contain horrible language. We can’t be held responsible if your children read this article and start swearing at your TV (or you).

Let’s get started…

The Oilers knew they had their work cut out for them when they met the Blackhawks on Monday night and Oilers fans were ready for a tough go. It didn’t quite work out that way though.

So at the end of the first, the Oilers had a 2-0 lead thanks to McDavid feeds to Oscar Klefbom. It looked like things were coming up Milhouse!

As you can see, there was a whole lot of Oilers scoring – which subsequently lead to a 5-0 Oilers win…AGAINST CHICAGO!!

So that was a good start to the week! A shutout for Talbot and a great game by the Oilers. Now they were heading to Colorado to meet the Avalanche and on paper, this was a game they should win. What happened? Keep on scrolling!

With goals from Nuge and Eberle, there were a lot of monkeys flying off backs…but the Oilers were still struggling to get offense going.

With Pouliot out of the lineup, it looked like the Oilers were rolling well without him…

That was that! The Oilers opened the floodgates in the third period and nailed the coffin shut with an empty netter by Eberle giving him two on the night and the Oilers a 6-3 win! With goals from Lucic, Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins, there was very little for Oilers Twitter to complain about!

Sigh – remember when #HereComesTheOilers used to be a bad thing? NOT ANYMORE!!

To cap off the week, the Oilers landed in Arizona to play the last place Coyotes. A definite must win for the Oilers. Arizona has had Edmonton’s number in the past, but would things change this particular Friday night??

Just over 90 seconds in, Captain Connor had the Oilers up 1-0. Just when you thought things were going our way, Arizona scored….or did they?

Let’s be real – it wasn’t even close. Even though the ref on the ice called it a goal…it wasn’t anywhere near the goal line. The reffing in this game was terrible, there’s no other way to put it.

There’s no secret here – Connor is the talk of the game. It’s a normal, everyday thing now, but Twitter LOVES it…I mean…who doesn’t?!

With the Oilers up 2-0 – despite a very sloppy game, things were looking good….for a bit….

https://twitter.com/1nkedOil/status/802367883128893440

At this point, the Coyotes had tied it up and the Oilers were heading to overtime. For this particular game, we were happy to get a point…and just when it looked like a shootout was imminent…this happened…

Watch the clock…

https://twitter.com/SportsnetSpec/status/802375729048645632

So off to the shootout we go…the Oilers had Letestu, McDavid and Eberle lined up to shoot and with that kind of firepower, you would think they were a shoe-in. Only Letestu managed to score and the Oilers wound up on the wrong end of a 3-2 final score.

We couldn’t agree more Megan. The Oilers seem to have trouble in the desert…but they’ll have their chance at redemption when the Coyotes visit the Oilers on Sunday.

Up next week…

The Coyotes visit Rogers Place on Sunday afternoon (uh-oh – the Oilers suck on Sundays and they suck in the afternoon…time to turn it around). Following that, the Leafs are in town on Tuesday night, and the Oilers travel to Winnipeg to meet the Jets on Thursday. The Oilers wrap up the week on Saturday night at home against the mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

So – the Oilers are currently tied with the Sharks for the Pacific Division lead, and (surprise surprise), Connor McDavid is leading the league in points – and it’s almost December. We can’t really complain here.
