Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction…..

With tons of rumors swirling around the NHL right now it is easy to get excited, dissapointed, or just plain confused. I don’t pretend now which are real and which are fake, like you all I can do is try and make sure that the rumors are coming from valued sources, i.e McKenzie, Dreger and LeBrun.

There are others out there but if you aren’t following the other well sourced hockey minds, I’m sure you’ll see them re-tweeted by one of the names listed above.

Let’s look at a few of the rumors surrounding the Oilers;

Goaltending

There isn’t a goalie available that hasn’t been linked to the Oilers in the past few days. The ask for Cam Talbot seems pretty expensive, and sounds like Chiarelli may be backing away from that avenue. Eddie Lack is still a possibility but one has to think that Vancouver will be reluctant to trade withing the conference, let alone the division.

Robin Lehner, Ugh, he’s far from the top of my list. But recently it seems like Bryan Murray may have changed his mind and is now shopping around veteran Craig Anderson.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsSo Anderson thinks that he’s moving to Edmonton, hmmm, where there is smoke sometimes there is fire. Martin Jones of the Kings has been talked about more and more in the last 24hrs as well. If I can’t get Talbot or Lack then personally I’m going to try and sign Niemi or Ramo come July 1st.

Defensemen

Mark Spector reported recently that the Oilers had a meeting with free agent Adam McQuaid. We know that Chiarelli knows they type of player McQuaid is, and the teams philosophy of getting bigger and tougher certainly fits this report.

Of course the rumors around another Bruins D-man won’t go away as the offer sheet route for Dougie Hamilton is still being mentioned frequently. The Bruins have came out and said that they’ll match up to 7 million, you’d have to think they’d be willing to go more if needed to keep him in Boston. The latest number I heard (Take that for what it’s worth) is that the Oilers are considering 7.75million to get Hamilton to sign. That’s a lot of money and then they lose the 2016 & 2017 1st round picks, maybe it’s worth it maybe it’s not. Mike Green has decided to test the free agent market as well, and I wonder if he’s going to be on the Oilers list. He’d command a lot of money, and isn’t the big physical guy that the new Oilers brass seems to be interested in. His right handed shot could fit in well and he’s definitely a better option than Justin Schultz.

I have heard the Oilers have met with another defenseman (again, take that for what it’s worth), it’s not a five star name, in fact the name doesn’t really do much for me. Think journeyman, physical guy that loves to clear the net. If I can get it confirmed or see it somewhere else I’ll definitely update this post.

Update: Kevin Bieksa has been asked by the Vancouver Canucks to Waive his no trade clause. Again the Canucks won’t want to trade within the division, but Bieksa is a player I’d love to see help mentor a guy like Darnell Nurse.

There is much much more to come in the next 24-48 hours. If anything breaks or there is anything to update we’ll have it here at the Rig. Happy McDavid Eve Everyone.
