Ryan Tannehill leaves game with knee injury vs. Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals v Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins couldn’t feel too great about a lead against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday after starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill left the game with a knee injury.

Tannehill, who had thrown three touchdowns to help build the 21-9 lead, exited and needed the knee checked out in the locker room.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared the information:

As others noted, the crowd went wild to see Tannehill walk off under his own power:

Tannehill has never missed a game with an injury, so fans seeing him down in pain wasn’t a good situation.

Alas, Tannehill had led the Dolphins to a 7-5 record entering Sunday, throwing 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions while completing 66.7 percent of his passes. Sometimes criticized as a game manager, Tannehill still had the Dolphins thinking about the playoffs.

It should go without saying, but this is the worst time of year for Tannehill to suffer an issue—the Dolphins face the rest of the AFC East to close the year with games against the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots up next, the first two on the road.

If the Dolphins are lucky, they won’t have to lean on backup Matt Moore for such a brutal stretch.
