Here’s the deal with this from last night:
[mlbvideo id=”33632041″ width=”400″ height=”224″ /]On these plays, especially now that when replay is in play, the umpires consider it a completed throw when the ball is “in the vicinity of the glove” or “the circumference of the glove”, and not when the ball hits leather. Makes it a closer play than it actually seems. So to paraphrase, don’t hate the result, hate the philosophy … or something.
But because the umpire in question was Angel Hernandez, amend that to “don’t hate the result, hate the incompetent umpire.” Yes … that’s better. He’ll be fun tonight behind the plate.
And great job by Terry Collins to do everything to be thrown out of that game after the play except get down on his knees and offer a free Netflix subscription to Gary Cederstrom. I guess Terry knew what was coming and didn’t want to see it … two hits the rest of the game and Frankie Rodriguez’s 20th save of the season. Oh, baseball gods … you’re good. You’re very good.
