We all hope Terry Collins, who went to the hospital before Sunday’s game, gets well soon.
I’m not sure that Collins, who I figure was sitting in his hospital room like Lou Brown throwing the pillows around, wants to get well. He probably hopes that this one day stay turns into a two week “vacation” after seeing what he saw on Sunday.
The Mets lost 5-3 to the Brewers as they kicked the ball around, making three errors. They had a late rally in the 8th, but Ryan Braun made a diving catch of Wilmer Flores’ screaming liner … which is kind of embarrassing to have Braun, never known as a great fielder, saving the day with a great catch after his Brewers weren’t all that great with the glove either. It was a game that just drove you insane.
What drove me insane more was that they lost to a pitcher on Saturday who wound up getting sent down on Sunday. Yeah, that guy. I didn’t have a great feeling about Saturday’s game from jump but hell, they got out pitched and out hit by a minor leaguer. No wonder Terry Collins got sick. He had better hope that he can invent a new bacteria that will keep him out a couple of weeks for the sake of his mental health. His team, via injuries and sloppiness, is not in a good way right now.
Interim manager Dick Scott is probably googling “bird flu advantages” right about now. In other news, I just learned that Dick Scott has been employed by the Mets the past six months. Hope you enjoyed your anonymity, Dick. It’s all downhill from here.
Today’s Hate List
Ike Davis is a Yankee. Joy. He’ll fit right in with the rest of the .220 hitters seduced by the right field porch. Expect him to become Ike Ruth for three weeks and put us all in the looney bin before he turns back into a pumpkin.
