One of the reasons for the UND’s turn around had been the play of their junior goalie Shelby Amsley-Benzie (Warroad, Minnesota).
For the season, Amsley-Benzie is (16-6-3, 1.15 GAA and a .955 SV%). Amsley-Benzie leads the NCAA in save percentage and is tied for second in GAA.
Since November 21, 2014, Amsley-Benzie is (13-2-2, 0.81 GAA and a .967 SV%). During that time, Amsley-Benzie also has eight shutouts.
Breaking it down further, during the New Year, Amsley-Benzie is (11-1-1, 0.61 GAA and a .974 SV%).
I am going to be highly disappointed if Amsley-Benzie isn’t the Defensive Player of the Year in the WCHA.
Per UND Women’s SID Ross LaDue, Amsley-Benzie is also on a program-record shutout streak spanning 267 minutes and 11 seconds. The last goal Amsley-Benzie gave up was on February 7, 2015, against Minnesota.
According to UND SID, Jayson Hajdu, Senior forward Mark MacMillan (Penticton, British Columbia) enters the weekend needing just one point to reach 100 for his collegiate career.
It well documented, UND has a great goalie on the men’s side, too. Junior goalie Zane McIntyre (Thief River Falls, Minnesota) has started all but one game for UND this season. Compiling a line of (22-6-3, 1.96 GAA and a .932 GAA).
Since January 2, 2015 McIntyre is (9-2-1, GAA 1.97 and a .936 SV%). During that same time period, the junior goalie is ranked first in the NCHC for save percentage, wins and winning percentage. Finally, McIntyre is ranked third in the NCHC for GAA.
Overtime warriors. This season, UND has been involved in seven games that have gone to overtime and have lost just once. This season, UND (3-1-3) in the extra period. The shootout hasn’t been as kind as they have gone 0-2 and have yet to score a goal.
