From time-to-time, I like to put up videos of hits that are questionable. I used to do this on a regular basis over at my other blog ndgoon.blogspot.com. Since the operation has moved over to this new location, I will continue this practice here.
I’d like someone to explain to me why Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal wasn’t given a penalty for his dirty cross-check/push check on Jets forward Andrew Copp? Aren’t these the types of hits that need to be removed from the game of hockey? Hockey is a physical game, but push checks are dirty and very dangerous because they catch a player in a vulnerable position.
What I took issue with is the only calls on the play: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for hi-sticking. Also, Jets forward Mark Scheifele was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing. Nothing for Mr. Staal, which I find puzzling.
