You would think Terry Collins would be happy, what with the way his team has been playing lately. But ask him about playing … or not playing Wilmer Flores as our buddies at Sports Talk NY did, then you get an interesting pre-game exchange. The best part about it is that I was thinking about reenacting the exchange on video with legos or Starting Lineup action figures … or something. But I don’t have to, because it was caught on video:
Wilmer Flores batted eighth on Tuesday and went 1-for-3. Unfortunately the real problem is that Chris Young batted fifth and went 0-for-3 with 2 K’s. Travis d’Arnaud is hitting .288 in July going into the game, and he has to bat behind Chris Young? Who was almost released a month ago? The way Cole Hamels was going, it probably didn’t matter who batted where, but Young striking out in the first to end the inning with two runners on practically ended the game. And it got more disgusting from there as the Phillies hit three dingers, including a grannie by Chase Utley off Josh Edgin in the seventh (one batter after Dillon Gee pitched around Jimmy Rollins hoping to get a crack at Utley) en route to a 6-0 loss.
As for Cole Hamels …
Source describes a trade of Hamels as the “least likely” of all the deals #Phillies are considering.

I can’t think of a more fitting punishment for Hamels than to play out the rest of his contract on the S.S. Amaro in Philadelphia. Even if it means he continues his recent streak of good pitching against the Mets. It would be fitting punishment for the choke artist comment, and the “I can’t wait for the season to end” comment after Game 3 of the freakin’ World Series!
But if this is it, if this is the last of Hamels in a Phillies uniform, may he Joaquin Andujar his way out of Game 7 of the 2014 World Series.
