The Beginning of the Early Departures?

There’s a little news on the player departure front. I have been surfing the internet the past couple of days for any sliver of news. As you probably know, there are a few of the guys are weighing their options.

Hopefully, coming back to UND and playing for another season is a viable option for most of them.

More specifically, Troy Stecher, Paul LaDue, Zane McIntyre, Drake Caggiula and Jordan Schmaltz are taking a look at their future options.

Personally, I  expect McIntyre and Schmaltz to sign. There’s not much more they can do at UND. Other than come back and compete for a title.

I don’t think anyone would be shocked by this move. Jordan Schmaltz is a first round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues.

UND could lose Paul LaDue as well. According to Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald and the Mayor John Hoven, he’s weighing his options.

Paul LaDue (Los Angeles Kings): The Kings will probably try to sign LaDue, as he’s an older prospect, but there are reasons for him to return for his junior season as well. He battled injuries for much of this season and could have a big junior year. The Kings also have a deep defensive corps and it will be tough to step into Los Angeles next season. (Brad Schlossman)

And From John Hoven of the Mayor’s Manor.

PAUL LADUE: Defenseman, University of North Dakota (6th round pick in 2012)
Full season stats (including tournament games): 5 goals, 17 assists, plus-7, 31 PIM in 41 games played
UND lost the NCAA Frozen Four semifinals versus Boston University last week and were eliminated from the tournament. LaDue was a non-factor on the scoresheet. He is currently deciding if he will stay in school or turn pro and sign an entry-level contract with Los Angeles.

As we get more news I will post an update. Cross your fingers.
