The High Price of Mediocrity

Is it any wonder … is there any question as to why this team is where it is after Wednesday night?

A good team finds a way to win Wednesday’s game after three hits and a walk in the ninth inning against a rattled pitcher.  A good team finishes that deal, and it doesn’t matter that they had a ninth inning victory the night before … good teams can pull that magic off two nights in a row.  It’s not too much to ask of a good team.

Mediocre teams do what the Mets did on Wednesday … throw the ball around, then pull off the big tease in the ninth and fall just short.

Another hallmark of a mediocre team: They smack around Josh Johnson one day, and roll over for Alex Sanabia the next.  Yup, mediocre.

You could probably say the same thing about the Marlins as they’re one up and one down as well.  And guess what, the Mets and Marlins are both in the same boat.  Only difference is that the Mets have paid over $800 million more for admission to that boat.  Mediocrity comes at a high price in Flushing.
