Week nine of The Rig Rant saw the Oilers finish the home and home series against the last place Arizona Coyotes (if you recall, they lost the first one in overtime last week in Arizona). Well, this wasn’t much better. The trapping style of Tippet and the Coyotes made for an impressively boring display of hockey – and the Oilers managed to drop another two points. *Face…meet palm. Then the Leafs were in town – another “should win” for the Oilers – but nah. They lost 4-2. Twitter wasn’t a very happy place.
The Oilers hit the road on Thursday and started off….well…down a goal…35 seconds in. Just when you thought it was going to get worse though – they managed to get their act (and their powerplay) together and muster up a 6-3 win! To finish off the week, the Oilers were back at home to host the Anaheim Ducks. This was an important game for Connor and the boys as the two teams were tied with 28 points heading into it. We won’t spoil the end for you, just scroll your way down and see how it all unfolded.

Oh man – finishing up the Rig Rant with the old school duck hunting dog and the Oilers finishing off the week with a 2 game win streak!! Sometimes it’s the little things.
Up next week…
The Minnesota Wild (including red hot former Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk) visit the Oilers on Sunday night and then the Oilers are back on the road with stops in Buffalo on Tuesday, Philadelphia on Thursday and Minnesota on Friday. That’ll be an interesting week!
So – Connor McDavid is still leading the league in points, and the Oilers are still sitting in a playoff spot – IN DECEMBER!! This is uncharted territory because by November, we’re usually talking about next year’s draft.
We can’t really complain too much.
