I’m done analyzing Terry Collins’ rationale for who he benches and why. You want to read about him getting pissed off at everyone who dares wonder why a 40-year-old gets outfield time at Juan Lagares’ expense, check this out. Personally, me thinks he doth protest too much.
I’d settle for Collins … who pledged that the Mets would “play the game the right way” … teaching his team how to run the damn bases. Because I make this pledge to you: If I see Daniel Murphy make one more stupid decision or have one more vapor lock while running the bases, I’m going to light myself on fire.
And I could care less that he might have been safe and that Collins decided not to challenge the play in the first inning where Murphy got thrown out after rounding third base. If Murphy knew how to run the bases it wouldn’t have been an issue. And then Juan Centeno gets thrown out at second after a run scoring single in the sixth to totally kill a rally? Somebody has to give these players the tools to, oh I don’t know … play the game the right way.
