From time to time, we get submissions from readers, and today’s instalment about being blocked by the Ducks on Twitter is from Andy Babic
One night as I was going through my social media feeds, I saw a tweet featuring the Anaheim Ducks twitter handle. I thought to myself “Hey, I haven’t heard from those guys in a while, I wonder what they’re up to?”. As soon as I clicked on the handle link to direct me to their twitter page, I get presented with THIS:
What. In. The. F**K?
I was in shock. I didn’t know what I did to deserve this kind of treatment. As much as I hate to say it, hockey teams are very much like many other faceless corporations with no feelings. Why would some big tough hockey team get so wound up from a tweet from little old me?
I know what you’re thinking: What did you do Andy?!?! Well, my next step was to find out.
Not to toot my own horn, but I may know a thing or two about computers. I discovered the Twitter “advanced search” feature, where you can look up tweets by handle, date and a whole bunch of other mumbo jumbo. I ended up finding a bunch of my tweets directed to the the Ducks. I ended up finding these gems:
@AnaheimDucks your jerseys are greasy.

Pat Maroon? HEY I KNOW THAT GUY!!!!
You have to admit, their jerseys are pretty greasy with all those vertical lines. YUCK.
Then I finally found the one that I think that got the job done.
@AnaheimDucks @Matt_Beleskey It’s a team not playing hockey now!

Really guys? Out of all the trolling that goes on nowadays, you block me over this? I’ve seen much worse. Plus Matt Belesky doesn’t even play for you guys anymore, so what gives?
To give you some perspective, this was the year that Chicago and Anaheim were battling it out in 2015. Chicago ended up winning the series and eventually the Stanley Cup. Later that spring, we drafted our precious Connor McDavid. I guess that this was my last jab at them before the following season.
As expected, I was upset. I never thought that my harmless trolling would ever get me into this much trouble. I always thought of it as a victimless crime. I know that the Oilers were in the tail end of the Dark Years. I had no business poking fun at playoff teams when mine were out by Halloween. But that’s what I thought Twitter was all about. Light hearted banter and chirping. Boy was I wrong. Anaheim Ducks, you guys are SOFT.
During the time where it was a highly likely event for the Oilers to miss the playoffs, I always thought of hopping on the Ducks bandwagon in time to watch them choke against the Kings, Sharks or Blackhawks. But not anymore.
Personally, you will always be my least favourite California team. And we just finished off the Sharks in a gruelling series. Those guys don’t even know what an oil rig in Alberta looks like for goodness sake. I even pointed that out to them without them freaking out at me:

#WreckTheRig my ass…
Since you won’t be able to see this, I’ll take a couple more shots at you:
Your captain – who used to have cool hair – is bald.
People make up “facts” about one of your other loser players on the internet (#CoreyPerryFacts). He’s also friends with Vladimir Putin.
Oh, and you’re basically the older and slower 2011 Canucks with Ryan Kesler and Kevin Bieska on board. There’s people who HATED that team with a burning passion.
Just face it: We know your weakness is mean tweets. Blocking everyone who gives you negative attention is just as futile as John Gibson or Jonathan Bernier blocking shots coming from McDavid and Company.
You know what? I’m glad you blocked me. You know why? You just made yourself a powerful enemy. Not only me, but an entire city.
You’re not in Kansas Calgary anymore.
Welcome to the the semi-finals and you got your work cut out of you. Good luck, you’re going to need it.
