University of North Dakota women’s freshman forward Emma Nuutinen made a huge impact during her home debut for the Fighting Hawks. For the weekend, the native of Vantaa, Finland, scored three goals and four points against Minnesota State.
On Saturday, Nuutinen scored the game-winning goal to give the Fighting Hawks, a sweep against the Mavericks. After four games, Nuutinen is second on the teams in points with (3g-1a-4pts). The UND coaching staff is very excited about having Nuutinen in their lineup.
“We haven’t seen that in a while,” UND head coach Brian Idalski said. “There’s a reason why she was in the Olympics, she can play. She looks fantastic and ready to go and she’s just going to get better as she gains more confidence gets comfortable with the language and everything else.”
Per UND Official Release — Nuutinen made an impressive debut to the home crowd over the weekend, as the native of Vantaa, Finland turned in a four-point weekend against Minnesota State. In Friday’s 6-0 routing of MSU, Nuutinen scored her first two collegiate goals, both in the third period. She then followed up her two-goal performance with a goal and an assist, which included scoring the overtime game-winner to help secure the weekend sweep for UND. Overall, Nuutinen was responsible for 40-percent of UND’s goal production over the weekend.
