The Mets broke the game open in the eighth, scoring four more runs that resulted in a 9-1 victory. In the last 10 games, this team has gone 8-2. More importantly, they’re hitting home runs at home and driving in runs when they need to. This could be a fluke, but I don’t care because I am enjoying what I’m seeing. Thinking back on this past week, I turned down two opportunities to go to a game on Wednesday and Friday. I know, I know. But, I can assure you that they were for good reasons. Reasons bigger than baseball.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxjZM-d_ShI]Jacob deGrom wasn’t as sharp as he was in his last start but, he did strike out eight. He also provided some offense as well. deGrom, formally a shortstop, is batting .273 on the year. .273? Why that is better than the Ruben Tejada’s of the world. Let me not knock the guy, we could have worse. Omar Quintanilla. Anyways, deGrom batted eighth and got his first Major League RBI after a Tejada intentional walk. He gave the Mets the lead 2-1 and they never looked back.
In the eighth, David Wright, Chris Young, Lucas Duda and Anthony Recker each drove in a run with the bases loaded. This is usually a spot where the Mets have struggled. It was nice to see some situational hitting for a change. I hope this continues. Kevin Gregg, in his second stint with the Marlins, failed to get an out after he gave out free bases to Granderson and Campbell. This was the recipe for a big inning. Four-runs to be exact.

I will leave you with this. . .
