The big question this offseason, will BU freshman phenom Jack Eichel return to Boston University Terriers for his sophomore season? If I was a betting man, and I am, I would have to say probably not. There’s nothing left for him to accomplish at BU, except win a NCAA title. Based on who the Terriers lose in the offseason, the chances of getting back to the Frozen Four might be slim.
Who knows? The only thing that is certain in life is death and taxes.
Apparently, the Boston University Terriers have pegged Eichel to wear an “A” next season. Some might look at this as wishful thinking. As you can see by the article referenced below, the Terriers are in full court press mode to get Jack to return next season. Why wouldn’t they want him to return, he’s an awesome player.
Bryan Mcwilliam, the Score — BU announced on Friday that Eichel would be an assistant captain for the 2015-16 squad if he were to return, using another ploy to try and sway the youngster into coming back to the team.
Eichel could decide that the idea of winning a national title is too much to pass up or that he could benefit from spending another season developing in BU’s program, but it is the NHL and he’ll likely have the opportunity to play right away with the Sabres.
“It would be another great year of development, college hockey and life with Coach (David) Quinn,” Eichel said after the Frozen Four. “There are positives to it any way you look at it. At the end of the day, when a decision has to be made, I will make it with my family and with my heart. I don’t want to be somewhere that I don’t want to be.”
Now we wait. Do you think Eichel will return for his sophomore season? The college game would definitely benefit from him playing another season in college. Eichel returning to BU would help promote the game with other high end recruits that are considering going to the CHL instead of college. Eichel is probably the most prolific prospect since Jonathan Toews to play for a college hockey team. Stay tuned.
