Wings Of An Outfielder

They say that when a butterfly flaps his wings, it can cause a tsunami halfway around the world. Conversely, when an outfielder signs in California, flipping out commences in Flushing.

Josh Hamilton signed a 5-year $125 million deal with the L.A.A. of A. It surprised everybody, although it shouldn't have. First, because the Angels are ninjas. Second, what other place could Hamilton have signed with that had his buddy and conscience C.J. Wilson on it?

So the upshot is that the Angels now have one too many outfielders, with Peter Bourjos, Mark Trumbo, and even Vernon Wells fighting for time. And the back alley conversations (started by Jon Morosi of FOX Sports) was that maybe the Angels can get R.A. Dickey for one of those spare parts.

Now this is a notion that has since been shot down (thankfully), but I just want to put on record that Mark Trumbo has a .302 career OBP. Also for me to put on record, regardless of whether I think this will actually happen: If the Mets trade Dickey for a deal centered around Bourjos just because he plays good defense in Citi Field, I'm putting my fist through my computer. Then I will come to your house and put it through yours. And if Vernon Wells comes here, for anybody, then the franchise should just fold immediately.
