Wisconsin’s Mike Eaves on Double Secret Probation

After having what most would consider as a really bad season (one of the worst in their team’s history), University of Wisconsin Badgers head coach Mike Eaves will retain his job as head coach. Eaves, however, will not receive an extension on his contract. That pretty much seems like a no-brainer to me.

You could say that Eaves has been put on double secret probation. Well maybe not, but he’s been put on notice. If Eaves’ team doesn’t show improvement you have to think the next move is out the door.

Andy Baggot, Madison.com — Three University of Wisconsin coaches were placed on alert Friday when their multiyear contracts were not extended.

The UW Athletic Board approved recommendations to maintain the contracts of men’s hockey coach Mike Eaves, women’s basketball coach Bobbie Kelsey and men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach Whitney Hite.

Five-year pacts for Eaves and Kelsey were maintained through 2019, while Hite’s three-year arrangement holds at 2017.

You have to love this comment by Wisconsin Badgers Athletic Director Barry Alverez.

“You can’t reward someone for a season like that,” Alvarez said.

I told someone during the Women’s WCHA Final Faceoff, that if the Wisconsin Badgers women’s team continues to win on a consistent basis  and the men’s program continues to flounders, that there will be some in Madison that will start looking at women’s head coach Mark Johnson.
