His name keeps coming up as one of the most dynamic player reps involved in current CBA negotiations… Domonique Foxworth. The young man appears to have a solid professional future ahead of him in labor relations or sports commentary…if he wants it. Foxworth is bright and articulate. We should also be reminded—he’s still a pretty darn good cornerback…
Domonique Foxworth… CB, 5-11, 180, 7th year out of Maryland…. is primed to make a comeback from ACL surgery last season… and is ready to make as strong a statement on the field in 2011 as he has already done off it….
Baltimore Ravens starting cornerback Domonique Foxworth tore his ACL last July in a non-contact drill…and has recovered very well. If there had been mini-camps this off-season, Foxworth would have been ready to go.
As for the Ravens cornerbacks as a group, pundits questioned whether the Ravens could overcome losing Domonique Foxworth last year to a knee injury, especially with Fabian Washington and Lardarius Webb coming off knee injuries the previous season. Instead, Chris Carr and Josh Wilson stepped up their game, and the Ravens excelled on the corners. Now, the question is whether the Ravens can re-sign at least one from among Carr, Wilson and Washington.
Now with Foxworth back, and #1 Draft pick Jimmy Smith in the house, The Ravens suddenly have strength and depth at cornerback—a position they have traditionally considered their weakest defensive link. Heck, they already have solid depth with their current crop of corners, even without that trio of Carr, Wilson and Washington… Foxworth is ready by most accounts – including his own – and Webb is fully healthy. Behind them, the Ravens have Cary Williams and fifth-round draft pick Chykie Brown.
The gem of this group could be first-rounder Jimmy Smith, whom many analysts rated as a top-10 talent. Smith’s 6-foot-2 frame is rare for where he plays, and the Colorado product is both fast and tough.
One of the Ravens great fan-posters, The King, recently published a great analysis of why he thinks the corner in Baltimore is no longer the weak link:
“If we can bring back either Carr or Wilson, with Foxworth, Jimmy Smith, and Lardarius Webb, it would give us four quality corners, and backup role players. Obviously, you can never have too much depth at CB, especially considering how many injuries Baltimore has had at the position in the past few years. However, I would feel pretty confident with those four.”
“The D-line is position is now the area that concerns me most…and it used to be our strength. Though I have a huge amount of love for Terrence Cody and a lot of faith in him, we’ll have to see if the promise he showed at the end of last season carries over into a strong sophomore campaign. If it does, then he adds a lot to the line. However, it still leaves the DL depth as something to be desired. Ngata is, in my opinion, the single best player in the league, and he showed up big time all last season. But the two of them alone are not enough. We need another great DL talent in the rotation…”

And moving forward, the Ravens could still solidify that corner spot for good with one more addition, perhaps a familiar name…okay, I’m getting a little ahead of myself!
