WR Stephen Hill catches Ravens’ eyes with a 4.3 “40”…

That’s the fastest legitimate time I’ve ever witnessed from a 6-4, 215 lb. guy…

4.30 ? Are you kidding me? And it’s legit because he followed it up with a 4.31 on his next run… (the “official” time from the NFL laser-tron was 4.36… but several independent timers clocked in at 4.30)…

Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech just rose up the wish list on the Ravens draft board…

Stephen Hill is a player that’s projected to go just behind the foursome of big, physical wideouts: Notre Dame’s Michael Floyd, Rutger’s Mohamed Sanu, South Carolina’s Alshon Jeffrey and LSU’s Reuben Randle.

But he may have the best size-speed combination of all of them, and he believes he’s better.

That could make him an interesting option for the Ravens if they don’t go with a first-round wide receiver. Hill said he had a formal interview scheduled with Baltimore.

“There’s going to be a lot of competition,” Hill said on Friday, adding that he hasn’t really spoken to his fellow wideout prospects. “A lot of the guys are cool, but I’m going out trying to run the fastest 40.”

And he did!

Combine that speed with Hill’s 6-foot-4 size and Hill is suddenly an intriguing prospect that may get more second looks around the NFL…and from the Ravens.

He doesn’t have the stats of his peers (28 receptions, 820 yards, five touchdowns), but that’s also affected by Georgia Tech’s option offense that stresses the run.

There’s been a number of big Georgia Tech wide receivers in the NFL, including most recently Denver’s Demaryius Thomas, a player many pundits linked to the Ravens two years ago. Thomas had a slow start and was plagued by injuries early in his NFL career, but began to stand out at the end of last season (he caught the game-winning touchdown against Pittsburgh in the playoffs).

“Of course both of us are big; I’m a little bit taller and I feel I’m a little bit faster too,” Hill said. “He was of course heavier. He knew the game well because he was older and things like that. But other than that, I’m trying to make my own name. I’m not trying to be Demaryius.”

Hill likened himself to a different former Yellowjacket, Detroit Lions star Calvin Johnson.  “He has the speed, he has the height and he can go up and get it,” Hill said. “Yes, he’s big Megatron. I know that. But I feel like I can compare myself to him.”

The confident Hill said what he needs to work on most is his breaks out of routes. He’s working with former Pro Bowl receiver Terance Mathis.

NFL.com has 4.36 as his best time. Not as if that is slow – it’s still the tied-for-fastest time among the wideouts and overall…

And let’s not forget that he was the best at the broad jump, too…Also, he was 4th in the vertical jump, and was in the top ten in the 60 m shuttle and in the 3-cone drill.

Not bad at all…

Perfect 3rd round pick if he’s still there for the Ravens… Speed, length, route running, leaping ability…just what Baltimore needs for Joe Flacco’s deep pass and red zone arsenal…
