The NFL threw the book at Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, hitting him with a six-game suspension after looking into his ex-girlfriend’s domestic violence claims.
Even though Elliott won’t be tried criminally, the NFL conducted its own investigation and came up with their own ruling. It’s hard to say if they found something that the police didn’t, or if they were sending a message to Elliott about his off-the-field behavior.
Or maybe Elliott was just forced to fall on the sword here, as the NFL looks to send a message to its players about domestic violence. Whatever the reason, Cowboys fans are obviously furious about the punishment, and they’re now making sure the league knows where they stand.
That’s why the “Free Zeke” slogan is starting to gain traction. Check out this fan at training camp with a poster of it.

He apparently even tried to get team owner Jerry Jones to sign it, but that didn’t happen.
