The first half of the game in Miami kind of typified the Ravens’ good effort/bad luck season. Holding their own for the most part against a big defensive push by the Dolphins’ interior line, Matt Schaub threw a 52-yard TD to Daniel Brown. But wait!—a line judge waves it off with an offensive pass interference call which he thought he saw BUT NEVER HAPPENED! That’s a play that’s not reviewable—and a play which makes me agree with Bill Belichick should be reviewable.
Okay, the Ravens defense makes some nice stops and Matt Schaub sustains a nice 8 minute drive down to the Dolphins’ 3 yard line. But wait! 3rd and inches, 4th and inches and the Ravens can’t get the spot for the 1st down.
Still 0-0 with two minutes remaining in the half—Schaub’s at his own 40 but his offensive line protection is breaking down at the tackles. His pass is tipped at the line. Miami intercepts the tipped ball and just like that—pick 6, Miami leads 7-0.
33 seconds later, Schaub is knocked around and picked off again, and one pass play later it’s Miami up by two touchdowns. The Ravens block the PAT and return it 99 yards for 2 points—but that play is called back for an offsides penalty on Lawrence Guy (who had blocked the kick). Miami says “okay, well go for 2 anyway” and of course they get it. Miami 15, Ravens 0. The Ravens come back with Justin Tucker with 22 seconds to go to make it 15-3 at the half.
Bad Luck. Bad call by officiating crew. Bad season…uggh… And then…of course…it started to rain.
Schaub and the Ravens clawed back in the 2nd half to make it close, but in the end Justin Tucker missed a 55-yarder wide in the wind and the Dolphins held on for a 15-13 win.
Ravens season under a magnifying glass in this one—key injuries, depleted offensive line at center, left guard and the tackles… and the worst luck in their history.

Miami (5-7) managed only eight first downs but improved to 4-4 under interim coach Dan Campbell, and ended a streak of five consecutive losses to the Ravens (4-8).
The score was 0-0 when Reshad Jones intercepted a pass batted by defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to set up the game’s first score. On the next play, Ryan Tannehill hit a leaping DeVante Parker at the goal line for a 38-yard touchdown.
Three snaps later, the 280-pound Shelby batted a pass in the air, caught it and ran 22 yards to the end zone for his first NFL touchdown.
“I got free. I got my hands up. I got the tip,” Shelby said. “Touchdown.”
The pick-six was the second in as many games for Schaub since he replaced Joe Flacco, who is out for the season with a knee injury.
“It’s part of the game, it happens, and that was the difference in the game,” Schaub said.
Injury-plagued Baltimore lost despite outgaining Miami 375-219 and controlling the ball for nearly 38 minutes. Schaub threw for 308 yards — and the two interceptions.
“Those are the two plays in the game that made the difference,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said.
The Dolphins’ two scores off turnovers were the extent of their point production, and new play-caller Zac Taylor couldn’t get the offense going.
Miami ran more than in recent games, and Lamar Miller rushed for 113 yards. But Tannehill went 9 for 19 for just 86 yards.
“We’ve got to be more productive,” Campbell said. “But we did what we had to do to win the game. Our defense played lights out.”
Ravens TE Crockett Gilmore left In the second quarter with a back injury. … Miami reserve DT Robert Thomas left in the fourth quarter with an elbow injury. … Harbaugh’s brother, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, watched the game from the Ravens’ sideline and was in the locker room afterward.
