Kevin Durant is playing at a Michael Jordan-esque level right now, and he can’t be stopped.
He’s put up 30 or more points in each of the last 11 games he’s started, and he’s been efficient in doing so, too—drilling the majority of his three-pointers (61 percent in his last six starts) and making nearly all of his free-throw attempts.
So when his Oklahoma City Thunder faced off against the Atlanta Hawks tonight, with a 109-109 score and just seconds remaining, it was quite evident who was going to take the final shot.
As a result, the Hawks stuck three (!) defenders on Durant. So, he passed up the potential game-winning shot so one of his teammates could knock down an open look, right?
Wrong.
Durant is excellent at creating his own shot, and that’s what he did here. After receiving the ball near mid-court, he put the ball on the floor and pulled up for a jumper from the elbow with three defenders in his vicinity.
And, he, of course, drilled the game-winner, giving his team the lead with just 1.5 seconds remaining. He finished with 41 points on the night (5-of-7 from 3-point range).
