Joe Flacco missed practice Thursday with a shoulder injury, according to Pro Football Talk.
It was the second straight day Flacco missed practice, which means Ryan Mallett better make sure his alarm clock is in proper working order.
Flacco suffered a minor shoulder injury during Sunday’s loss to the Giants. He wasn’t even aware of any injury until after the game. An MRI revealed it.
“It’s nothing to worry about,” Flacco told the team’s website Wednesday.
The Ravens actually have a lot to worry about after losing three straight and falling to 3-3.
They play on the road against the Jets Sunday. The Jets might be 1-5 and turning to Geno Smith as their quarterback, but they’ve played four of their last five games on the road. The one home game was against the Seahawks and all five of those games have come against teams with winning records. So the Jets could be better than most 1-5 teams, for what that’s worth.
Flacco has thrown just five touchdown passes this season and is averaging six yards per attempt. The Ravens are hoping new offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg can breathe some life into their offense.
If Flacco can’t go Sunday, Mallett might be the one who has to breathe life into the offense as long as he’s not snoring when it’s time to get on the plane. Mallett was infamously cut by the Texans last season after oversleeping and missing a team flight, although after joining the Ravens he did lead them to a 20-17 upset of the Steelers in Week 16.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said that practice isn’t required for Flacco to play. Perhaps the Ravens will see if rest is the best medicine.
