The Green Bay Packers have lost their big, bruising running back.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers are placing Eddie Lacy, who requires surgery on his damaged ankle, on injured reserve.

Placing Lacy on IR opens a roster spot, which would allow the Packers to promote rookie running back Don Jackson from the practice squad.
It’s possible Lacy has played his last snap for the Packers.
New NFL IR rules allow for the former second-round pick to come back after eight weeks. But teams can only reactivate one player from IR per year, and the Packers have already placed Sam Shields (concussion) on the list.
Lacy, 26, will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2016 season.
He started this year strong, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Overall, Lacy has 360 rushing yards in five games.
According to Schefter, the Packers aren’t sure if Lacy’s ankle surgery will end his season. However, the team may have to decide between Lacy and Shields down the road.
The Packers are expected to start Ty Montgomery at running back on Thursday night against the Bears. James Starks is still recovering from knee surgery, and Knile Davis—who Green Bay traded for on Tuesday—has only had two days to learn the offense.
Over four NFL seasons in Green Bay, Lacy has rushed for 3,435 yards and 23 touchdowns.
