The Jacksonville Jaguars underwent an epic meltdown in the fourth quarter of Week 7’s 33-16 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Other than generally stinking it up, defensive lineman Malik Jackson got ejected, as did defensive back Jalen Ramsey for a silly slapping match captured on video here.
Ramsey, a rookie, is somewhat understandable. Jackson, a Super Bowl champ, knows better. He took it a step further, too, leaving the stadium and his team before the game was even over, according to Phillip Heilman of the Florida Times-Union.
Team leader Paul Posluszny blasted both guys, as well as the team’s performance:
I think it’s terrible. We need to act like professionals at all times, regardless of what happens. To have guys get thrown out, multiple penalties over and over again, that’s not who we are and we can’t tolerate that moving forward.
I’ve never seen anything like that before. That’s unacceptable on a lot of different levels. Fans don’t want to see that, you guys don’t want to see that and we don’t want to be a part of it. Just from a higher standard of playing in the NFL, we can’t have that.
Posluszny is one of the more respected veterans in the league, so it’s harsh coming from him. This wasn’t meaningless talk from a garbage team, either—Jacksonville was in pursuit of its third win in a row to reach .500, which in the miserable AFC South would have kept the team right in the race.
Rest assured the leaders of the locker room will talk it out with Jackson. But it doesn’t take a major leap in logic to suggest he’s missing his Denver Broncos right about now.
