From the sounds of reports released Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is close to a return.
Romo has spent time recovering an injury suffered during the preseason while rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has become one of the better stories in the NFL.
Ed Werder of ESPN revealed Romo feels he is ready to go:
Source says that Tony Romo feels he has recovered from preseason compression fracture in back, ready to play, capable of taking #NFL hits.

For additional context, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted Romo remains about one week out from the all-clear signal:
If #Cowboys QB Tony Romo gets thru the week with no setbacks, his rehab will be complete. Jerry Jones has said they'll go with the hot hand

Reports have conflicted at best about Romo’s status in prior weeks. These seem to align, though, with the quarterback having practices slightly last week and continuing to work his way back.
In reality, Romo might not land as the backup quarterback for a few weeks. He’s been out of action all year and the offense has jelled around Prescott. At this point, his getting the backup gig is the first step in a lengthy process.
The Cowboys haven’t hinted at who starts once Romo is ready for game action. For now, Prescott continues to lead the team to wins. If that changes, things will get interesting.
