Report: Marcus Mariota (ankle) expected to play vs. Packers

A previously undisclosed ankle injury is not expected to keep Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota from playing on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

According to ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky, Mariota hurt his ankle last Sunday against the San Diego Chargers, but he is expected to practice fully this week and start against the Packers.

Through nine games, Mariota has 17 touchdown passes and eight interceptions for the 4-5 Titans.

Tennessee will need Mariota healthy and effective to beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers on Sunday.

The Titans are 7-14 in Mariota’s first 21 NFL starts. The second overall pick in 2015 has 21 touchdown passes, three interceptions and a 133.0 passer rating in the seven wins, and 15 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and a 76.2 passer rating over the 14 defeats. The Titans have never won when Mariota finishes a game with a passer rating under 100.0 (0-14).

Over the last five games, Mariota has 13 passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.

The Titans are currently tied for second place in the AFC South.
