Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has thrown an NFL-high 17 touchdown passes since the start of Week 5.
In fact, Mariota has probably been the league’s most impressive quarterback over the last six weeks.
Not only does he lead the NFL with 17 touchdown passes since Week 5, but he’s second in passer rating at 119.0 (trailing only Tom Brady), fourth in completion percentage (67.96), fifth in yards per attempt (8.6) and sixth in passing yards (1,557). He’s also rushed for a pair of scores over the last six games.
Mariota won AFC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 295 yards and four touchdown passes during Tennessee’s 47-25 rout of the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. He started the game completing his first 10 passes and leading the Titans to four straight touchdowns. He finished with a passer rating of 149.8, the second highest mark of his career.
The second overall pick in the 2015 draft has fueled the Titans’ revival in 2016. Tennessee is 4-2 over the last six games, with all four wins coming in games in which Mariota has finished with a passer rating over 100.0.
That continues a career-long trend for Mariota. The Titans are 8-0 since 2015 when Mariota has a passer rating over 100.0, and 0-14 when he’s under 100.0.
“He’s just amazing back there,” receiver Tajae Sharpe said, via ESPN. “He’s just getting better week by week, and we’re going to go as he goes. When he has games like this, we’re going to be a hard team to beat.”
Mariota started his sophomore season slowly, with four touchdowns and four interceptions during Tennessee’s first three games. But there are very few quarterbacks playing as well as the blossoming Titans star right now.
