Danny Trevathan’s season is over.
Chicago Bears coach John Fox told reporters Monday that the fifth-year linebacker suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee during Sunday’s 27-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans and will be moved to injured reserve.

“He’s obviously a very talented player and a guy we targeted and went after in the offseason,” Fox said during his Monday press conference, via ESPN.com’s Jeff Dickerson. “Unfortunately, he also had a thumb injury that required surgery earlier in the season [forcing him to miss two weeks]. But he looked very good in the offseason work and in training camp.
“This was a semicontact injury behind the ball. He planted wrong, and the injury occurred.
“He’ll fight back. He’s been through this before. He had a similar injury [in Denver in 2014] that he worked through, and he’ll do the same off of this one.”
Trevathan signed a four-year, $24.5 million contract in the offseason with Chicago after four seasons played in Denver, where he helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50.
Trevathan appeared in nine games for the Bears this season, posting 66 tackles, a sack and four pass deflections. Second-year linebacker John Timu is expected to replace Trevathan at one of the inside linebacker spots.
