Ezekiel Elliott ties Cowboys’ rookie record for rushing TDs

Dallas Cowboys v Minnesota Vikings

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has four more games to break a rookie record he tied against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.

Elliott’s touchdown run in the first half gave the rookie 12 rushing scores in 2016, tying him with Tony Dorsett and Herschel Walker for the most rushing touchdowns by a rookie in Cowboys history.

The 1-yard score gave the Cowboys a 7-3 lead over the Vikings in the second quarter. Dallas went on to win, 17-15, giving the Cowboys an 11th straight win.

Elliott and his ability to find the end zone remains a big reason for the Cowboys’ dominance. The fourth overall pick has scored touchdowns in eight of 12 games this season, and his 12 rushing touchdowns are currently tied with New England’s LeGarrette Blount for the NFL lead.

Elliott is on pace for 16 touchdowns in 2016. The league record for rushing touchdowns in a single season is 18, set by Eric Dickerson in 1983.

Dickerson also holds the NFL rookie record for rushing yards at 1,808. Elliott, who already holds the Cowboys’ rookie record for rushing yards, is on pace to rush for 1,713.
