Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell is open to switching to receiver, just not right now.
“Maybe when I’m old and not wanting to play running back and get the ball 20 times a game, maybe I could convert, but not right now,” said Bell, via Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Bell is one of the league’s best receiving backs, so a potential switch to receiver makes sense. He is second on the team in receptions this season with 57, and has 209 receptions for his career.
Steelers teammate and All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown thinks Bell has what it takes to make it as a receiver.
“I think so,” Brown said, via the Post-Gazette. “He has great routes, great fundamentals, great patience. I don’t know how he’ll be with 70 plays, but I think he has what it takes to be a great receiver. He has great hands. He has the Tony toe-tap. I think he’ll be just fine.”
However, the average NFL running back peaks at age 27, and Bell is still just 24 years old. It won’t happen next season but look for Bell to make the switch down the line.
