Colin Kaepernick produced a stat line never before seen in NFL history during the San Francisco 49ers’ 26-6 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
According to ESPN, Kaepernick became the first quarterback ever to take at least five sacks and throw for fewer than five yards in a single game. Benched in the fourth quarter, Kaepernick left the game after completing 1-of-5 passes for four yards and taking five sacks.
The 49ers finished Sunday’s loss with just six net passing yards, the team’s fewest in a game in over 50 years:

Kaepernick did rush six times for 20 yards.
The performance was shocking, given the fact that Kaepernick was coming off one of his best games last week. Despite a loss to the Miami Dolphins, Kaepernick threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 114.
He produced 384 fewer total yards against the Bears.
Wintery conditions in Chicago weren’t ideal for big offensive numbers, but the 49ers didn’t blame the performance on the weather.
“We’re not going to make any excuses,” head coach Chip Kelly said. “It wasn’t like we could go practice in Saskatchewan this week, so it is what it is. Both teams played in the same weather, so I don’t think that was an excuse. We had the same weather they had. So both teams dealt with that and I think they handled it better.”
The 49ers haven’t committed to a starting quarterback for next week.
