Randy Gregory expected to practice Wednesday

Dallas Cowboys v San Diego Chargers

Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is scheduled to practice Wednesday.

That doesn’t mean he’ll play this season.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB via Pro Football Talk, Gregory is eligible to return to practice this week. He’s serving a combined 14-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and is allowed to begin practicing two weeks before the suspension ends.

However, Gregory might be suspended again because he reportedly failed a drug test while suspended. If he is suspended a third time, he wouldn’t play at all this season.

For now, Gregory is practicing and the Cowboys can hold out hope that he can improve their lackluster pass rush. The Cowboys are 22nd in the league with 23 sacks. Gregory had no sacks in 12 games as a rookie, but according to the Cowboys website he was fourth on the team with 16 quarterback pressures.

The Cowboys scooped up Gregory with the 60th pick in the 2015 draft. So many teams passed on him because of his baggage.

Dallas might have to wait until Year 3 to see any contribution from Gregory, however.
