Surgery to repair a hernia injury is likely to cost New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul the rest of his 2016 season.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Pierre-Paul is expected to miss at least six weeks. That timetable would keep him out the rest of the regular season and into the postseason, granted the Giants make it that far.

The Giants’ pass-rusher suffered the injury during New York’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday.
Pierre-Paul posted this photo of himself preparing for Wednesday morning’s surgery:

He was just coming on lately, with 5.5 sacks and a touchdown over his last three games.
New York will have to move on without one of its best players on defense.
Holders of a playoff spot at 8-4, the Giants are about to enter a brutal portion of their 2016 season schedule—which includes games against division leaders Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions and back-to-back road games versus the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins.
Pierre-Paul, 27, signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Giants this past offseason. He’s scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2016 season.
