Ezekiel Elliott isn’t out of the woods yet when it comes to potential league discipline stemming from a domestic violence investigation.
That discipline isn’t likely to come during the 2016 regular season or playoffs.
According to Pro Football Talk, the NFL is still looking into five alleged incidents in July involving Elliott and a former girlfriend as well as one alleged incident in February.
The league told PFT the investigation is “active and ongoing.”
Is the league taking its time with the investigation to avoid suspending the league’s leading rusher and dealing a serious blow to the championship hopes of a team owned by Jerry Jones? Very few people know the real answer to that question, but considering the way the league has handled domestic violence discipline it hasn’t exactly earned the benefit of the doubt.
On the other hand, even fewer people know what really happened in these alleged incidents the league is investigating.
It could be that the Cowboys go far in the playoffs, maybe even win the Super Bowl, but pay the piper next season if Elliott is suspended.
Unless there is nothing to these alleged incidents, everyone involved will be subject to criticism. It’s the kind of murky situation that would be avoided if men would stop hitting women.
