Count Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith among those very impressed with Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Smith, who knows a thing or two about the position, is just like the rest of the world when it comes to watching in awe as the Ohio State product carries the team on his back.
He added his own bit of insight on the topic, making Elliott’s campaign all the more impressive, per Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN:
“I see a guy who has vision, explosion, speed and quickness,” Smith said. “I just see a guy that’s poised to do great things in this league and has an offensive line that will give him an opportunity to do it.
“I’m loving what I’m seeing. I am inspired.”
Inspiring a Hall of Famer like Smith isn’t an easy task. But Elliott has found a way, carving up the NFL to the tune of 1,285 yards and 12 touchdowns on a 4.9 per-carry average over 12 games.
It isn’t just numbers impressing Smith, though. He points to a specific jump-cut Elliott recently made as an example:
“When you do things like that,” Smith said of Elliott’s game-changing play against the Vikings, “it means you got excellent vision. Your vision takes you there, and then whether you use a jump cut or a sidestep depends on what you have in your arsenal. It was one hell of a move.”
There’s little doubt Elliott is a special player with a bright future. Getting this level of praise from one of the best to ever do it simply reinforces the notion.
Keep in mind this praise comes in Week 14—Smith and the globe still get four more games of Elliott, plus the playoffs.
