The Buffalo Bills could have a quarterback problem over the offseason.
Sitting on a disappointing 6-6 record, Buffalo has received a 60.6 completion percentage with 11 touchdowns to five interceptions and six more scores on the ground from quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
Buffalo, of course, used this year as a way to evaluate Taylor, hence an extension that really functions as a one-year deal. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bills might look at notable veterans if they don’t feel like giving Taylor another chance:
If the Bills decide Taylor is not their quarterback of the future, expect them to be active in the veteran quarterback market with a possible eye on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick also could be on their radar.
The report stresses the Bills are far from making a decision—but notes the evaluation process is on the way.
It’s certainly something interesting to think about. Taylor is only 27 years old with possible upside still left untouched. But if the Bills want to win now with the current roster and believe a veteran could help, grabbing a Tony Romo or Jay Cutler would make some sense.
This is added pressure Taylor doesn’t need as the season winds down. His Bills have lost four of their last six. If the team doesn’t hit on a run to close the season, expect to hear plenty more about Taylor sitting on a hot seat.
